Good Things: 2012

I don’t do resolutions, but I do like to reflect on the great things that have happened throughout the year. Here they are in somewhat chronological order:

  1. Ariana & Jared’s Wedding
I had the amazing privilege of styling my friends’ wedding this April. We worked really hard to ensure the decor spoke equally to both their tastes and to be honest, Pinterest just made the whole process easier. It really was such an honor and blessing to be able to help make this a memorable day for them; I will never forget it. Check out the amazing blog love here and here.

  2. India Media Team
I went to India this year with my hubs and 3 other friends/filmmakers to create a documentary around the life of a new friend. It turned out to be simultaneously more rewarding and more taxing than I could have known. It was epic; you’ll have to wait a bit for the full experience as the film is not expected to be done until Fall 2013, but you can sneak a look at some of the footage here.

  3. Beggars Banquet
I am stoked to have been involved in a local pop-up flea market, Beggars Banquet, this year. It’s just so good for my soul to create a space from nothing into a nook that people just want to come in and explore. I’ve been at #003, #005 — I skipped #004 since it was scheduled on the very same weekend as the aforementioned wedding, #006 and #007 — which I’m realizing now that I completely forgot to tell you about. How horrible I am. In all seriousness, this past one was the best; they really do keep incrementally getting better and better. I hope to keep participating in the new year; you know I’ll keep you posted.

  4. Our home featured on Houzz
The humble little rental we’re in actually graced the blogosphere this Fall by way of Heather Merenda — whom I was introduced to by Meghan, curator of the Beggars Banquet. There’s been a great response; I’m still a bit in wonderment and disbelief.

  5. Refinery29 x Pinterest
I was honored, honored to be mentioned on this mega blog as an Influencer for the board I curated on Pinterest called Cold Remedies. I was on cloud nine for a very long time… ok, maybe I still am, so what. I’m among great company.

  6. Africa Missions
Hubs and I went to visit his family and their non-profit, Hope of the Nations, in Kigoma, Tanzania in October. While we were there, we hosted a visit from the missions pastor of our church and through that, the decision was made for the church to form a partnership with HofN. This is a big deal, and I am so excited to see what a game-changer this will be for their ministry.

Photo Diary: Ariana’s Wedding

Finally, I have real photos from the wedding — more than just my souped-up iPhone shots. The fantastic Mathias Fast was the photog and I’m so pleased that he loved shooting the decor as much as I had fun putting it together. My hubs promised we’d have a big 10-year-anniversary soirée and I imagine that I wouldn’t stray too far from all the ideas we implemented for beautiful Ariana.

The Wedding

The gorgeous newlyweds are back and the ban on posting wedding photos has been lifted!! Here are a few to whet your curiosity. I’m really waiting to see the photographer’s which should be much more beautiful than my iPhone ones we took in-between setting up.

Weekend Warrior

20120423-131923.jpg

I previously told you I was feeling the calm before the storm — well with Storm #1 out of the way, I’m feeling it again. Storm #2 will come in the first week of May, as we get ready to head out to India for three weeks.

Storm #1, by the way, was absolutely glorious, not really a storm at all. Oh wait! There was one hiccup — teeny tiny hiccup. Ok, so I was decorating a wedding of a good friend of ours. We were just about to open the doors for dinner and I look onto a bunch of wait staff freaking out near a table. I walk over to see sopping wet place-settings and a burnt tablecloth!! Apparently the wind coming in from the patio had picked up and blew a standing table number over onto the candles; it all went up in flame!! Luckily one of the girls was nearby and tossed a glass of water on it and not too much was damaged — not to mention, thank GOD we didn’t burn the place down!! We spruced everything up as best we could in 2 minutes and pretended nothing had happened; I’m so sorry, Table 14, for your damp encounters.

Months of prep went into this — as one would imagine a wedding would require, but as a DIY wedding, much touch of hand and forest scavenging were required. I just can’t wait to show you all the photos, which will happen when the honeymooning couple returns, so the bride can be the first to present their special day to the world — as it should be. Seriously, this was one of my favoritest weddings ever; everything was just perfect.

The wedding took place a couple hours away, so we got puppy-sitters for the weekend and stayed out there. That, too, required a lot of prep; having someone stay at your home is not always a worry-free event. In turn, a lot of projects-in-waiting got done (or 90% done) and all those things on your list that you would clean “if you ever find the time” got crammed in as well. I function so well under the wire though; my procrastination always seems to pay off.

So now we are getting ready to leave in about a week and a half and I’m just mentally planning all the things I have to get done and packed before then. I’m praying my Visa comes in on time — or else hubs will be forced to go without me. That. Would. Suck.
