Time to Refashion

I’m a bit sad to report that I won’t be a vendor at either Beggars Banquet or Eastside Flea this month. It was a very tough decision, as I feel super committed to BB and had such a great time at the Flea with our everything-for-$5 booth. However both of these markets are falling on the same weekend as another event I had committed to months ago, Refashion Vancouver.

This is its second year in the city; I hadn’t heard about Refashion Van last year until it had passed and I’ve been looking forward to it ever since. I expect the crowd to be a bit different from what the flea markets are pulling in and so I’m going to be taking a lot of stuff from my closet that I wouldn’t normally take to a flea. The parameters for this sale are a bit different than what I’m used to; only clothing and shoes allowed (no other accessories) and they must be new or barely worn. That’s it. It will be interesting mostly because I’m usually such a mixed bag, that’s kinda my shtick, but I will have a focused audience of serious shoppers just looking for clothes. “Serious” because there’s a $5 entry fee. You don’t just throw away latte money if you aren’t about to get your serious shop on. So I’m excited.

Lucky for me, I can still stop by Beggars Banquet on the 19th. I just can’t bare to miss it, and I heard that this time around you get a free drink with your $2 entry and there will be appies, too. So I’ll see you there, right? Don’t forget to pop by Eastside Flea at Wise Hall for a $1 donation on the 20th — before or after you come see me in Yaletown at Refashion Vancouver.

A New Flea in Town

In a couple weeks, there will be a new flea popping up in East Van and I am stoked for it. Being from L.A. where there’s a flea market in nearly every neighbourhood, ever since I moved to Vancouver, I’ve been seriously missing this culture. There’s the indoor one on Terminal, but it’s a bit hit or miss and you get the urge to promptly wash your hands after leaving (this was before the remodel, I actually haven’t been back in a while). Of course, I absolutely adore the Beggars Banquet, but I’d call it more of a boutique flea — where you can definitely expect a serious deal here and there, but you should anticipate paying for the quality and selection that you’re going to find there. The Eastside Flea has the hopes of being more of a mixed bag — perhaps the medium between these two and it’s being fashioned after the Brooklyn Flea in New York. Come check it out; I’ll have a spot where I’m going to offload some serious goods at just $5 a pop!!

It’s that time again and I’m so excited!! Beggars Banquet is happening this weekend and we’re in a new building for 2013. I cant wait to get back into it since the last one in November, and I’m going to have my friend, Michelle, there with me all weekend since hubs is out-of-town. I just might have all kinds of new treasures to show you; better come see!!

Color Inspired

I suppose now that I’m back to work, the outfit posts should resume. It still feels weird to me, taking photos of myself just to share what I’m wearing. A lot of people have told me that they like to see what I’ve put together, though, so I’ll keep at it for now; lucky yous. I’m not sure I could ever be really comfortable swinging my body around in the middle of the street like most fashion bloggers do. I prefer to do it in private — fitting room selfies, coming right up! Really though, especially when I try smiling, I feel totally narcissistic, but then I took this quiz and got a 14, so I’m normal. Right? I do fully acknowledge that the quality of these photos are terrible. I’ll try to figure something else out.

I’ll start with my most normal outfit, since things got a little crazy this week. Ok, first I must tell you that I got so super excited when I saw that UO, Anthro, and Free Peeps are now taking Paypal at thier web stores, that I placed an order from Africa so it would be waiting for me when I got home. I know. I got problemz. Anyway, these blue suede Dolce Vita flats were on that list and I’ve been wearing them a ton already. I think we’re going to be best friends. I also ordered this scarf, cause ’tis the season for sparkle, dontcha know? I should also note that I’m in a postal contest with myself to see how high I can get my hair to stay; this one might be the winner.

Next is what I wore today. I got really excited when we got this crazy vest in at work — but pretty much just because it meant I could get away with a crazy vintage vest of my own. Hot tip: when you wear stuff like this, just go for it and never look back. I often hear “Oh, you could totally pull that off.” It’s not how you look. It’s an attitude. It’s an I-don’t-care-what-anyone-else-thinks-of-me attitude. …of course I say that and then I ritualistically keep checking the Houzz post to see if there are any new likes or comments and then I get all bent out of shape when there’s yet another mean old lady getting down on my style. Well, we’re all human. How quickly I get off track. I call this look: Man Repeller but vintage-ier and with worse portrait conditions.

Segue to the next outfit — another level of crazy I just fell in love with. I thrifted this vintage wool maxi with my mom last week. It’s sparkly and orange and cozy and I love it. Then I put my blue shoes on. Yep. Circus glam. Don’t care. I was comfy all day and a customer complimented my look. Don’t you just lurve the random niceness of others? I do.

That’s all, friends. I’m off to have a crafty night with the ladies and then get ready for another Beggars Banquet tomorrow. Hope to see you there!!
