A New Flea in Town

20130221-122909.jpg

In a couple weeks, there will be a new flea popping up in East Van and I am stoked for it. Being from L.A. where there’s a flea market in nearly every neighbourhood, ever since I moved to Vancouver, I’ve been seriously missing this culture. There’s the indoor one on Terminal, but it’s a bit hit or miss and you get the urge to promptly wash your hands after leaving (this was before the remodel, I actually haven’t been back in a while). Of course, I absolutely adore the Beggars Banquet, but I’d call it more of a boutique flea — where you can definitely expect a serious deal here and there, but you should anticipate paying for the quality and selection that you’re going to find there. The Eastside Flea has the hopes of being more of a mixed bag — perhaps the medium between these two and it’s being fashioned after the Brooklyn Flea in New York. Come check it out; I’ll have a spot where I’m going to offload some serious goods at just $5 a pop!!

Flea Market Bliss

It’s that time again and I’m so excited!! Beggars Banquet is happening this weekend and we’re in a new building for 2013. I cant wait to get back into it since the last one in November, and I’m going to have my friend, Michelle, there with me all weekend since hubs is out-of-town. I just might have all kinds of new treasures to show you; better come see!!

Photobooth Resolution

My love affair with photobooths started before I was old enough to drive; the magazine stand that I used to frequent in Burbank with my friends had — I think still has — a color machine there. Most of what I have left from those days got water damaged in storage… Oh. For. Shame. These photo strips of the hubs and I are pasted up in our hallway, amongst many other nostalgic pieces that remain from our collective pasts. They were taken around L.A. during our first year of marriage. I came across this website — well it’s more of an homage to the photobooth. Photobooth.net documents all things photobooth related: media, like film and television they pop up in, art exhibits, info on renting a machine for your event — but the best, absolute best part us that they have a locator. You can search any area to see if there’s a photobooth near you. I freaking love this and I know I said I don’t do resolutions, but I really want to try to get back into the habit of photoboothing it up whenever I see one. There are some booths right in my backyard; I have no excuses not to. I mean, obvs there are “apps for that” — I like the interface of Photoautomat — but there’s just nothing like the real thing.

My Houzz is Here

20121021-135853.jpg

It’s here!! The article on our house — on Houzz — is done and making me a little home sick — definitely missing the boys. We’re doing well, still in Africa for two more weeks. I’ll set up another photo diary soon.

P.S. Hubbs swears the last photo of me and the boys in my closet looks nothing like me, what do you think?

Beggars Banquet #005

Finally finally finally, we made time to do the photo edits from Beggars Banquet. Ever since we moved hubs’ computer to his office, things like that just take a little longer. So here are the shots that he took over the two-day pop-up flea market. I love that one day is an evening event and the next is daytime; it allows for two totally different vibes and crowds to mingle with.

My post for the event; I was on a little stage so I had a pretty good view of everything.

Bird’s eye view of only about 1/4 of the space. Spot me?

Fact: I have a mild obsession with S&P shakers.

Carved Oaxaca skull mask I brought back from Puerto Vallarta another lifetime ago and this bronzey-copper-silver decanter I just can’t get over.

This guy also blogged the event and now we’re friends.

I hope this guy comes back because I heard he was making drinks with Sriracha — perhaps the vendors will get a drink ticket or two next time…

I was pining over this vintage straw hat from Second Chance Hats.

This teacup has little symbols inside that are supposed to tell you your future when your loose tea leaves land on em. Silly of course, but I love old things like this and it is stamped the same year my mother was born. It’s been on my bookshelf for a very long time.

Insider tip: there are many kimono-esque robes and jackets on my rack — and they’re amazing — and you should stumble into the art of wearing them in the daylight. On another note, I’m wearing this skirt my mom gave me from her closet from the 90′s and I love it; paired with my favorite Insight tee and stack-heeled clogs.

More covet-worthy jewels from Ladakh.

That is just a snippet, my friends. There were a ton of other amazing vendors and things to see. The next event is in September; if you miss me a third time — we’re probably not friends. Let’s be friends, k?
