Time to Refashion

I’m a bit sad to report that I won’t be a vendor at either Beggars Banquet or Eastside Flea this month. It was a very tough decision, as I feel super committed to BB and had such a great time at the Flea with our everything-for-$5 booth. However both of these markets are falling on the same weekend as another event I had committed to months ago, Refashion Vancouver.

This is its second year in the city; I hadn’t heard about Refashion Van last year until it had passed and I’ve been looking forward to it ever since. I expect the crowd to be a bit different from what the flea markets are pulling in and so I’m going to be taking a lot of stuff from my closet that I wouldn’t normally take to a flea. The parameters for this sale are a bit different than what I’m used to; only clothing and shoes allowed (no other accessories) and they must be new or barely worn. That’s it. It will be interesting mostly because I’m usually such a mixed bag, that’s kinda my shtick, but I will have a focused audience of serious shoppers just looking for clothes. “Serious” because there’s a $5 entry fee. You don’t just throw away latte money if you aren’t about to get your serious shop on. So I’m excited.

Lucky for me, I can still stop by Beggars Banquet on the 19th. I just can’t bare to miss it, and I heard that this time around you get a free drink with your $2 entry and there will be appies, too. So I’ll see you there, right? Don’t forget to pop by Eastside Flea at Wise Hall for a $1 donation on the 20th — before or after you come see me in Yaletown at Refashion Vancouver.

It’s that time again and I’m so excited!! Beggars Banquet is happening this weekend and we’re in a new building for 2013. I cant wait to get back into it since the last one in November, and I’m going to have my friend, Michelle, there with me all weekend since hubs is out-of-town. I just might have all kinds of new treasures to show you; better come see!!

Good Things: 2012

I don’t do resolutions, but I do like to reflect on the great things that have happened throughout the year. Here they are in somewhat chronological order:

  1. Ariana & Jared’s Wedding
I had the amazing privilege of styling my friends’ wedding this April. We worked really hard to ensure the decor spoke equally to both their tastes and to be honest, Pinterest just made the whole process easier. It really was such an honor and blessing to be able to help make this a memorable day for them; I will never forget it. Check out the amazing blog love here and here.

  2. India Media Team
I went to India this year with my hubs and 3 other friends/filmmakers to create a documentary around the life of a new friend. It turned out to be simultaneously more rewarding and more taxing than I could have known. It was epic; you’ll have to wait a bit for the full experience as the film is not expected to be done until Fall 2013, but you can sneak a look at some of the footage here.

  3. Beggars Banquet
I am stoked to have been involved in a local pop-up flea market, Beggars Banquet, this year. It’s just so good for my soul to create a space from nothing into a nook that people just want to come in and explore. I’ve been at #003, #005 — I skipped #004 since it was scheduled on the very same weekend as the aforementioned wedding, #006 and #007 — which I’m realizing now that I completely forgot to tell you about. How horrible I am. In all seriousness, this past one was the best; they really do keep incrementally getting better and better. I hope to keep participating in the new year; you know I’ll keep you posted.

  4. Our home featured on Houzz
The humble little rental we’re in actually graced the blogosphere this Fall by way of Heather Merenda — whom I was introduced to by Meghan, curator of the Beggars Banquet. There’s been a great response; I’m still a bit in wonderment and disbelief.

  5. Refinery29 x Pinterest
I was honored, honored to be mentioned on this mega blog as an Influencer for the board I curated on Pinterest called Cold Remedies. I was on cloud nine for a very long time… ok, maybe I still am, so what. I’m among great company.

  6. Africa Missions
Hubs and I went to visit his family and their non-profit, Hope of the Nations, in Kigoma, Tanzania in October. While we were there, we hosted a visit from the missions pastor of our church and through that, the decision was made for the church to form a partnership with HofN. This is a big deal, and I am so excited to see what a game-changer this will be for their ministry.

Leaving on a Jet Plane

Things have been straight up cray at the Knepper household. Hmm, where to start? Well the Beggars Banquet was absolutely fantastic. This was my favorite one so far — great how they just keep getting better and better!! We didn’t have our camera with us this time, but here are a couple iPhone pics we took of my booth. P.S. I did finally get my Sriracha Cesaer; delicious.

On the 2nd day, Meghan introduced me to a Houzz contributing blogger, Heather, and we set up a meeting for her to come shoot our house!! Amaze!! I am so excited, you guys. Check out the work Heather did at Meghan’s cutie place. Our home is a humble one, but I put a lot of work and love into it to make it feel like “us”. I’ve shown you snippets here and there before, but this is my whole house done at one time!! …okay I may have shoved a thing or two in the closets, but for the most part it’s done. She shot it last week and seemed to have fun doing it. So that might be coming out sometime while we’re gone.

Wait, what? Gone? Yes. Josh and I are off to Tanzania on Sunday for five weeks. His parents have lived there for the past 9 years and just this past May, his sister and her family have moved there, too. So we’re going to have fun visiting, but it’s not all play; Josh is going to be filming some of the work they do with their ministry, Hope of the Nations. As in India, I hope to be able to update here as much as possible. P.P.S. I haven’t even started packing yet; better get on that.
